Tibetan protesters slipped through tight security to demonstrate outside the venue where Hu Jintao gave a speech.

Chinese President Hu Jintao is in India for a four-day visit designed to boost ties between the the two coutnires that have been marked by lingering tensions dating back to a 1962 border war and rivalry over their regional roles.

On the day of the arrival of the Chinese dignitary, the protestors assembled at Jantar Mantar where they shouted slogans against China for its "occupation of Tibet", burnt an effigy of Hu, unfurled the Tibetan flag and sang what they called their national anthem.

A release issued by Tibetan Youth Congress said, "Tibetans strongly condemn the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India and believe that the Indian Government would not take any measures that may go against the historical truth and aspiration of six million Tibetans living in and out of Tibet."

A number of Tibetans have been arrested in various parts of Delhi for protesting against Hu's visit to India and alleged Chinese atrocities in Tibet.There are approximately one lakh Tibetan exiles living in India.
