BANGALORE: Keeping in mind the unpleasant incidents taking place across major cities, the Horticulture Department is beefing up security for the upcoming Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh slated to begin from August 5.
Addressing reporters on Wednesday, Director of the Horticulture Department and Chairman, Mysore Horticulture Society P Hemalatha said, "Compared to previous flower shows, this time we have planned to increase the security measures. We will be increasing the number of Home guards and police personnel. If required, we will deploy extra troupes. In addition to the metal detectors, this time we are installing CCTVs at the Glass House where the major flower show is being organised."Depicting peace, serenity and unity of religion, the replica of the Lotus Temple of New Delhi and the wheel of Konark Temple, Orissa, would be the main attractions of the show.

"The 20 feet high and 30 feet wide Lotus Temple replica will be placed at the centre of the Glass House. Two lakh carnations, 75,000 roses, tuberoses and more than and 10,000 ornamental leaves in varied colours would be used for its beautification," she added.

The IndoAmerical hybrid variety, temperate flowers mainly agapanthus, lily, alstroemeria, prenula and cyclamen from Ooty, and above 15 varieties of anthurium from Coorg will be displayed at the Glass House. Besides the flower show, flower arrangements competition will be held on August 6.

Speaking aside, P Hemalatha, Director, Horticulture Department said, "Taking into consideration the problem faced by public, we have granted HOPCOMS to set up exclusive store inside Lalbagh premises which will provide drinking bottled waters at prevailing retail price."
