New Delhi: Delhi government on Monday suspended a Tihar jail Superintendent in connection with the escape of two inmates from the prison last month.
The government suspended Superintendent jail number seven OP Bhatti following a preliminary investigation into the escape of two inmates from the high-security jail nearly two months back.
The suspension order has been issued following approval from Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
"The action was necessitated following the escape of two inmates from Jail number 7 and the government is of the view that a free and fair inquiry will only be possible after the concerned officer no longer remains in a position to influence the outcome of the probe," Delhi government said in a release.
Deputy Commissioner (West) BS Jaglan is already conducting an inquiry into the incident.
Delhi government has also directed the Tihar authorities to ensure Bhatti does not leave the headquarters without obtaining the permission of the competent authority.
Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain has sought a detailed report from Tihar authorities on the state of affairs in the prison.
He has also sought a proposal from the authorities on steps required to improve functioning of the jail.
