TIRUCHY: The soon-to-be-inaugurated Passport Seva Kendra here would allow applicants to get their biometric prints and photographs taken at the centre itself, K Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer, said on Monday.Balamurugan added that the police verification would also be done online and hoped that this would reduce the time taken for passport issuance by a week. All other functions would be taken up at the old regional passport office.He was addressing a gathering on the functions of Tamil Nadu’s first and second Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) to be inaugurated at Tiruchy and Thanjavur by Mukthesh Bhardesh, Joint Secretary and Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs, on June 29.Tiruchy, Karur and Perambalur districts would come under the jurisdiction of Tiruchy Passport Seva Kendra. Other districts like Pudukkottai, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam would come under the Thanjavur Passport Seva Kendra.The applicants could just log on to www.passportindia.gov.in and register for their passports. An appointment with specific date and time would be issued to the candidate as soon as they register.They should produce the original and photo copies of their certificates during the time of appointment at the centre, added the Regional Passport Officer.
