TN election panel puts onus on state

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (SEC) has left the decision on a direct or indirect election to the Mayor’s post to the State.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with government pleaders regarding cases pertaining to the elections conducted by the SEC in the past, SEC secretary V M Xavier Chrisso Nayagam said on Thursday that he was on a routine visit to Madurai and Coimbatore, as these are densely populated when compared to other local bodies.Electronic voting machines, stored on the Corporation’s premises, were also inspected by the SEC officials.
