Coimbatore: A woman school teacher has been sentenced to one month imprisonment by a court here for cutting the hair of a fifth standard girl student and making her kneel down in the class as a punishment for not tying the locks properly in 2008.
Delivering the verdict, seventh Judicial Magistrate Hemanthkumar last evening also slapped a fine of Rs.1,000 on Physical Training teacher Shobhana of private matriculation school here.
The prosecution case was that the teacher had cut the girl's hair as a punishment after noticing that she had not properly tied it.
The student was also asked to kneel down. Due to pain in the knee, the girl was unable to walk back home and she took the help of her friends, following which her parents filed a complaint with the police.
