Tourists Granted Permission To Bathe Under Manimuthar Falls
The Manimuthar River begins from the Eastern slopes of the Western Ghats located in Tirunelveli district.

The Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu has many attractions and one of them is the Manimuthar Falls, located in the Western Ghats. The rainwater that falls in areas including Manjolai, comes through the Western Ghats and pours into the Manimuthar Falls. The Manimuthar River begins from the Eastern slopes of the Western Ghats located in Tirunelveli district. The river is the chief tributary of the Thamirabarani River. It is a beautiful scenic spot as you witness the majestic meeting point of the water, mountains and the sky. Tourists who come to the falls can bathe in the water. It is generally perfectly safe.

In the past few days, the Courtallam Hills had received a strong downpour of heavy rainfall. It caused flooding in the nearby Courtallam Falls. Water gushed out of the falls. The authorities had to seal off the area. Following this, as a precautionary measure, a bathing ban was imposed at Manimuthar Falls. Also, the ban on bathing at Manimuthar Falls has been extended as the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts.

It was a major blow to the tourist destination as most schools and colleges are on summer vacation, right now. Tourists were disappointed as they could not visit the waterfall as bathing was prohibited.

Now, the latest update is that the heavy rain warning for Tirunelveli district has been lifted. Additionally, there is light rain occurring in the Western Ghats. As a result, the forest department has authorized tourists to bathe in the Manimuthar waterfall.

Another attraction, just a little away from the Manimuthar Falls, is the Manimuthar Dam. The dam is located 20 kilometres from Papanasam town. The nearest towns to the dam area are Ambasamudram and Kallidaikurichi. The dam is situated along the route from Ambasamudram to Pechiparai. Manimuthar Waterfall is a few kilometres away from the dam.
