New Delhi: With the view to be more transparent with the content posted by users, Twitter has introduced a new copyright policy that has made a change in the way Twitter responds to copyright complaints. Twitter will now withheld any copyright-infringing tweet with a takedown notice explaining it's being withheld due to a complaint, instead of deleting it. In the past, Twitter used to delete copyright-infringing tweets and the URL of the tweet lead to a content not found page. But now, others are made aware that a particular tweet has been withdrawn. "In an effort to be as transparent as possible regarding the removal or restriction of access to user-posted content, we clearly mark withheld Tweets and media to indicate to viewers when content has been withheld (examples below)," explained Twitter.
According to Twitter's official DMCA policy, "Twitter's response to notices of alleged copyright infringement may include the removal or restriction of access to allegedly infringing material. If we remove or restrict access to user content in response to a notice of alleged infringement, Twitter will make a good faith effort to contact the affected account holder with information concerning the removal or restriction of access, including a copy of the takedown notice, along with instructions for filing a counter-notification."
