Two dead in Madurai mishap

MADURAI: Two persons were killed and 10 injured when a speeding van hit a lorry near Kottampatti here, early on Sunday. Police said that 11 tourists from Hyderabad visited Madurai on Friday in a tourist van to visit famous temples of southern districts.After visting temples at Rameshwaram and Tiru-chendur, they were travelling to Tiruchy on Sunday morning via the Madurai-Trichy National Highway, when the van driver Murugan attempted to overtake a lorry near the Gadampatti bus stop. As the lorry driver suddenly decelerated, the van driver, hit the rear side of the lorry. The dead were Pochaiya (59) and Samuthiralal Vittal (60) of Hyderabad. Ten persons were injured and were admitted to the Melur Government Hospital for treatment.
