Beijing: Just three weeks before the Beijing Olympics, two blasts ripped through separate public transport buses in southwest China, killing two persons and injuring 14 others, police said.
Police termed the explosions 'deliberate acts', a news agency said.
The blasts occurred almost within an hours gap during morning rush hour as the buses were plying on their routes in downtown Kunming city, the capital of Yunnan province, Bureau of Public Security said.
The area around the site of the first explosion, which was cordoned off by the police, was scattered with broken glass and the front portion of the bus was destroyed, the agency said.
Explosion took place in the second bus when it was about to reach its final destination.
The injured have been hospitalised. Authorities have ordered the transport department to tighten security by stepping up patrols and installing new check posts to prevent the perpetrators of the blasts from fleeing, the news agency said.
The government is concerned about incidents like these, which are happening just three weeks before the Beijing Olympics. Authorities have repeatedly said the Games could be a target for terror attacks.
