New Delhi: Two more former soldiers have joined the fast-unto-death demanding implementation of One Rank One Pension even as the health of two other veterans deteriorated and they were rushed to a hospital. The two retired defence personnel who joined the fast are Subedar (retired) Vijay Singh Yadav, Army Service Corp, and SWR Keshav Singh, 65 Armoured Regiment.
Apart from the two named above, there are seven other veterans and the father of a martyr who are on fast-unto-death. After Colonel (retired) Pushpender Singh and Havaldar (retired) Ashok Chauhan, two more soldiers Havaldar Sahib Singh and Major Piar Chand Rana have been admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area after their health deteriorated.
The other veterans currently on fast-unto-death are Colonel Pushpender Singh, Havaldar Ashok Chauhan, Havaldar Major Singh, Havaldar Sahib Singh, Major Piar Chand Rana, Naik Uday Singh Rawat and former Navy personnel Commander AK Sharma along with Sanwal Ram Yadav, father of martyr Lance Naik Sunil Kumar Yadav.
The veterans and war widows have been demanding One Rank One Pension which means that a retired soldier of the same rank and length of service will receive the same pension, regardless of his or her date of leaving the Indian Army, Indian Navy or Indian Air Force.
Calling it their legitimate right, veterans are on protest at Jantar Mantar for the last 74 days and will continue till it is implemented.
