KOCHI: The flying squad of the Motor Vehicles Department on Thursday took into custody two buses of Navanirman Public School, Vazhakkala, which were in bad condition. The buses were seized during an inspection conducted on school buses plying in the Kakkanad, Palarivattom and Edappally areas. The inspection was conducted in around 30 buses and cases were registered against owners of six. The inspection was conducted to check the fitness of the vehicle, drivers’ experience and the functioning of speed governor. Motor Vehicles inspectors said the certificates of fitness for these buses have been cancelled and the school authorities have been fined. “Some parts of the buses were in very bad condition. These buses will have to be sent to workshops for maintenance and to undergo fitness tests again,” said Vinod Kumar, assistant motor vehicle inspector, a member of the flying squad.
