BHADRAVATI: West Zone beat South Zone by 47 runs in Friday’s match of the All India U-19 Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament being played at VISL Silver Jubilee Stadium. Electing to bat first, West scored 225 runs in 47.5 overs, thanks to left hander Vijay Zol who scored 93 useful runs. He was also figured in a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket with Chirag Khurana (25). Vijay Zol hit eleven hits to the fence before he was caught by Aswin Crist off the bowling of Sneha Kishore, who took four wickets. Ganesh Narvekar claimed three wickets.South Zone, in reply, was bundled out for 178 runs in 45.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Harmeet Singha (3-24) did the major damage while A R Patel and Chirag Khurana took two wickets each. Except Shreyas Gopal (43) and opener Samarth R (34) no other batsmen made an impression. Rays of hope spread in South camp when the team score read 150 for six in 39th over when Shreyas Gopal and A S Mohan had put up 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket. A S Mohan holed out to Harmeet Singh in an attempt to loft DJ Hooda’s fifth delivery. Shreyas Gopla was trapped in front of the wicket by Harmeet Singh when the former tried to sweep a delivery pitched on leg and middle stumps. Wickets tumbled later and South Zone was all out for 178 runs.
