BANGALORE: Confusions prevailed on Vani Vilas Hospital’s premises on Wednesday. While media persons and visitors were waiting to catch a glimpse of the baby, Afreen’s body was shifted to the mortuary for postmortem from rear entrance of the hospital at about 11.45 am. The battered baby’s farewell reminded the city of baby Falak, who succumbed to injuries at AIIMS in New Delhi recently. Afreen’s family members including her grandmother Maqbool-Bi and uncle Attaullah, were seen at the hospital. “We are residing in D J Halli for the past eight years. We hail from Hassan. We sell fruits and vegetables at the City Market. Though we know Umar Farooq was a divorcee, we accepted the alliance for marriage because they fooled us. Farooq’s family promised that they would take Reshma Banu (Afreen’s mother) for pilgrimage. We thought they were kind people. Just in one-and-a-half-years, my daughter’s life has become hell,” said Maqbool-Bi. “Reshma had never told us that she was being tortured. She did not wish to insult her husband or bring disrespect to him in front of others. Only recently, she had started to share what difficulties she was going through,” she cried.
