BANGALORE: Three warders of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison had to bear the brunt of some undertrial inmates when they allegedly went to confiscate mobile phones which were being used illegally by the inmates.Warders Nanjaiah, S P Hiremath and B C Venkatesh sustained skin-deep wounds as the inmates threw steel tumblers and plates at them when they entered a barrack on Friday. They were being treated as outpatients at the prison hospital, the police said. According to jail officials, there was information that some inmates were using mobile phones inside the barrack illegally. A raid was conducted on Barrack No 4 in the Third Block. While the staff was searching for phones in the barrack where about 40 inmates were lodged, undertrial prisoners Rihal, Arman and Mohammed were allegedly engaged in a heated argument with the staff. In the melee, they allegedly threw steel glasses and plates at the warders. Nanjaiah, Hiremath and Venkatesh sustained wounds in the incident. However, the other warders rescued their colleagues and seized the two phones from Rihal and his associates. The prison’s Chief Superintendent  Lakshminarayana said that they had decided to file a complaint against Rihal and associates for attacking the jail staff. “Also, we would write to ADGP (Prisons) to transfer the three to other jails as a disciplinary action,” he added.
