United Kingdom team meets Uma Bharati over Clean Ganga Mission
The British experts gave a power point presentation for Clean Ganga Mission on measures taken to clean River Thames in the UK.

New Delhi: A team of experts from the United Kingdom called on Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati and discussed about the Clean Ganga Mission. The three member team was accompanied by British Deputy High Commissioner in India Julian Evans and second Secretary, Energy Security, Melissa Else, a press release in New Delhi said on Saturday.

The British experts gave a power point presentation on measures taken to clean River Thames in the UK, the release added. During the discussions, the Minister emphasised on the need to utilise the assets already created in Varanasi during Ganga Action Plan at the first instance so that it can be revived by July this year, the release added.

Martin Griffiths, former head of Water Quality for the UK Environment Agency and Deputy Director of Regulation in the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, who was one of the members of the team gave a detailed account of the assets created and presently lying unutilized on the banks of Ganga at Varanasi.

Griffiths was one of the experts associated with Ganga Action Plan-I, the release said. The other two experts at the meeting were Ben Piper, Hydrologist and water resource planner from Atkins Consultants and Gwyn Rees, Director, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and Science Area Lead for water resources.

Bharati said her Ministry looks forward for a long and fruitful association with them in the Clean Ganga Mission. Water Resources Secretary AK Bishnoi and senior officials were also present during the discussions.
