NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the desealing of 27 shops and establishments in the T Nagar commercial area here.A Bench comprising Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Dipak Misra passed orders to this effect saying that the Madras High Court will try to dispose of the pending petitions on the issue as early as possible. In its previous hearing, the apex court had ordered status quo with regard to the 27 shops and establishments that had been sealed for violating building norms.Later, it restrained authorities from sealing other shops or demolishing buildings, including the 27 shops that had been sealed following show cause notices to them. The Ranganathan Street Merchants Association and others had appealed against the sealing and closure of the shops. They said the shops were sealed without giving the owners an opportunity to put forth their arguments. The petitioners said if their petitions were not allowed, it would lead to the closure of the famous establishments and showrooms. They added that thousands of employees would lose their jobs if the shops are ordered shut.
