HYDERABAD: Upa Lokayukta MVS Krishnaji Rao on Wednesday sought reports from the superintending engineer (operations) of the Andhra Pradesh Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd at Khammam and also from Khammam SP in connection with the suicide of a tribal woman in Sitampeta of Garla mandal in Khammam on January 29.The Upa Lokayukta took up the case suo motu based on news reports.A tribal woman Bhadramma hailing from Sitampeta in Khammam reportedly committed suicide after her husband Malothu Bhadru was allegedly harassed by the electricity officials for not paying power bills on Sunday.Though he cleared the bills immediately by selling gold ornaments of Bhadramma, police took Bhadru into custody for arguing with the officials.Depressed over the incident, Bhadramma committed suicide by consuming pesticide. As the villagers along with the family members of Bhadramma staged a dharna in front of the police station, the district administration admitted the officials have overreacted. Based on news reports, the Upa Lokayukta called for a report from the officials concerned.
