KOCHI: Vidyodaya School, which had made a presentation on Carbon Nano Tubes, emerged winners at the ‘Scientia Atomos 2011’ competition held here to commemorate the International Year of Chemistry. Gregorian Public School bagged the second and third prizes with their presentations on Nano Technology in Medicine and Quantum Mechanics respectively at the competition that was conducted by Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala.In the power point presentation, St Teresa’s GHSS bagged the first prize with a presentation about Plastic Waste on Bad Roads, followed by Saraswati Vidya Niketan’s Catalyst Activity and Navy Children School’s Bio-diesel. In the poster-making category for juniors, Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya came first for their topic ‘My Mother’s Kitchen- A Wonder Chemical Lab’.Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Girinagar stood at second position while Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya bagged the third prize. In the senior category poster-making competition on chemistry, Rajagiri Public School came first for ‘In a Lifestyle Store’, followed by Chinmaya Vidyalaya and Kannamaly and Bhavans Vidyamandir, Elamkkara.As many as 20 teams comprising over 200 students participated in the two competitions. CUSAT Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath was the chief guest.
