HYDERABAD: The CBI special court on Wednesday granted fiveday police custody of Vijay Sai Reddy, the vicechairman of Jagathi Publications Private Ltd. After hearing arguments from both counsels, the court also directed CBI to interrogate him between 10 a.m and 5 p.m in the presence of his advocate while permitting him to stay in Chanchalguda prison. As soon as the hearing began on Wednesday, the CBI counsel asked the court to grant police custody of the accused for 13 days. Stating that Vijay Sai Reddy was the kingpin in the illegal assets case, B Ravindranath, deputy legal advisor of CBI argued there is a need to interrogate the accused to know more details of investments into Jagan Reddy's companies as the investigating agency felt he had exclusive knowledge on the same. "Even as the CBI summoned and questioned him, Vijay Sai Reddy did not reveal anything. The CBI also had to crosscheck the documents seized from the his home and office and from investors during the searches,'' the CBI counsel argued.Opposing the plea, Susheel Kumar, senior advocate and counsel for Vijay Sai Reddy said that even as the CBI registered an FIR against Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Vijay Sai Reddy in the illegal assets case on August 17, the CBI had failed to identify a single public servant involved in the case. After registering a case against Vijay Sai Reddy, the CBI questioned him for at least 200 hours and he appeared before CBI at least 32 times, he stated. "What is the purpose of seeking his custody? There is nothing more to disclose as the CBI has recovered documents, CDs and laptops of the accused. When Vijai Sai Reddy appeared before the CBI, they humiliated him,'' Susheel Kumar argued.Going into details about the circumstances which led to the registering of case against Jagan, Susheel Kumar argued that it was politically motivated. He also raised objections to the use of certain words in the petition filed by CBI on Tuesday seeking police custody.Later, the Magistrate B Naga Maruthi Sharma directed the CBI joint director VV Lakshminarayana to write such reports carefully and granted five days police custody of the accused till January 9.
