In preparation for the upcoming Vikravandi assembly by-election scheduled for July 10, the Villupuram district administration has ordered the closure of liquor shops registered under TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) for a total of four days. The closure affects all government-run TASMAC outlets as well as private liquor shops within the Villupuram district from 10 AM on July 8 until 12 midnight on July 10, and again on July 13.

Villupuram District Collector Palani has issued an order to close TASMAC liquor shops across the district on July 8, 9, 10, and 13 respectively.

Scheduled for July 10, the Vikravandi Assembly bypoll has prompted the district administration to enforce the closure of liquor shops. The counting of votes is slated for July 13. Nominations for the by-election were accepted between June 14 and June 21, resulting in 29 candidates vying for the seat.

The by-election has attracted significant political interest, with 29 candidates contesting from various parties. Among the prominent contenders are the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), each actively campaigning ahead of the poll. The nomination process concluded on June 21.

The closure of TASMAC shops is aimed at maintaining law and order during the electoral process, ensuring a peaceful conduct of the by-election in the Vikravandi constituency.
