THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vilappilsala Janakeeya Samithi has decided not allow the garbage lorries to enter the panchayat from December 21, Samithi office-bearers said here on Monday.Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, they said that the government had not made any sincere effort to resolve the issues related with the garbage plant despite an assurance in this regard at a meeting held on September 20. It was decided at the meeting that a solution to the problem would be found within three months. The Samithi had also put on hold its various protest programmes.The meeting had decided to close down the garbage plant and to implement alternative facilities on a war-footing. But the Samithi leaders said the Corporation had not made any sincere effort in this regard.They said that the Corporation and the government were turning a blind eye towards the plight of the Vilappilsala residents. The cases of cancer, various skin diseases and respiratory problems are on the rise among the people, they said. Samithi president S Burhan, secretary L Benetson, patrons C S Anil, Somasekharan Nair and G R Subhash attended the media conference.
