KOCHI: Kochiites can heave a sigh of relief as the water connection, which was disrupted owing to the bursting of pipeline on the Kaloor-Karthirkadavu byroad, was rectified on Tuesday morning. Kerala Water Authority officials said the water supply has been resumed as the pumping from the Aluva Pump house started on Tuesday morning. Initially, the people living in elevated areas will get water only by evening as the water pressure will be higher in the low-lying areas. According to sources, the repair work was deterred owing to heavy rain and workers and engineers of the Kerala Water Authority had a hard time for the last two days.“We had to remove the mud flown into the drench owing to heavy rain. The underground water flow was another headache and we had to depend on electric motors throughout the day to pump the water out,” the sources said. The old pipe line is the reason behind the break down and Kerala Water Authority is looking forward to laying new pipes so that such incidents can be avoided in the future, sources said.
