Jalpaiguri: West Bengal state government has been looking for financiers to reopen the closed tea garden where seven workers died of malnutrition in the past one week, North Bengal Development Minister Goutam Deb said on Monday.

"The state government has been looking for financiers to reopen the closed Raipur tea garden. It has been lying closed since 2003 when its management fled the tea garden," he said.

Deb said that government officials and engineers would visit the tea garden to assess the condition of the labourers quarters and repair them through government schemes like Indira Awas Yojana.

State government would distribute cooked food to the jobless workers of the closed garden and strengthen the ICDS centres to provide nutrition to the children, he said.
