Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Toiba operative David Headley on Monday revealed that terror outfit's Sajid Mir was his contact person. Headley made the confession while deposing before a Mumbai court via video conferencing and his statement is crucial to nail Pakistan's Army and Pakistani intelligence agency Inter-Service Intelligence’s role in the Novembed 2008 carnage in Mumbai. .
Sajid Mir is LeT's foreign recruiter and a key member of the terror outfit who runs training camps for the organisation. According to the Interpol Mir is a 38-year-old Pakistani national and is wanted in cases of criminal conspiracy, terrorism and waging war on nations.
Headley revealed that Mir had reportedly asked him to set up an office in India with a motive to build a cover up in India. Headley had taken a 5-year visa to set up his business in India.
Mir’s recent location has been tracked to Muridke in Pakistan and he is currently believed to be involved in the Karachi project, a venture undertaken by several terror groups who have joined hands to launch terror attacks in India.
Headley had told the National Investigation Agency in 2010 that he saw Mir for the first time in front of the Lahore High Court when they had gone to settle some cases of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed. Sajid was introduced to him by one Ramzan of LeT by his original name.
Mir was one of the earliest members of LeT. He was earlier head of Lahore unit of LeT.
He had said Mir had a number of passports in different names - one passport was in a Christian name with surname Masih. He had been to Dubai, Qatar, Syria and even tried to set up the outfit base in Thailand.
He had added that Mir is a very secretive person. He is a very meticulous person and has a good eye for details. He has never been to any operational area. He is extremely careful in handling the email IDs. He often uses satellite phone and has a good understanding of computers and the cyber world.
Mir is extremely clever and a competent handler. He would always take precautions not to expose my activities to any other handler, he had said.
Mir had undergone a plastic surgery. However, there was not much change in his face after the surgery.
Mir, was once arrested in Dubai and he got out only because of his LeT connections.
