With just a few month left for the eight season of Bigg Boss to kick off, several popular names are now being rumoured as potential inmates of the controversial house. While Aam Aadmi Party member Kumar Vishwas recently made headlines on revealing that the makers of Bigg Boss had extended an offer to him, actress Neetu Chandraa took to Facebook to explain that she turned down the offer to participate in the reality show. If rumours doing the rounds are anything to go by, TV actors Arjun Bijlani, Tina Dutta, Debina Bonerji and Karan Kundra are also among other probable contestants.
When we asked actor Gaurav Chopra if there is any truth in media reports suggesting that he will also be seen in the show following his exit from the daily soap 'Uttaran', he said, "The makers of 'Bigg Boss' have been persistent in extending the offer to me. Of the eight seasons of the show (including this year's), I have been approached for about 5 to 6 times. So yes, pretty much every season, I'm made an offer to participate in Bigg Boss. Since I have quit 'Uttaran' , which is also aired on the same channel, the makers have been forceful and persistent in discussing the same. In the first meeting I had with the makers of 'Bigg Boss', I was happy because they made me feel wanted. Since it is the same channel, they must have thought if he isn't doing his soap, so he might do another show. This year the makers have done a research on the contestants whom the audience would want to see. They are trying to address my reservations and make the offer look really attractive," he said.
While the buzz has it that Gaurav will enter the show with Narayani Shastri, the actor rubbishes the rumour. "Even though media reports have been suggesting several names as probable contestants, let me tell you not all names are correct. Narayani hasn't even been spoken to. I'm aware of the reports suggesting that both of us might enter the show, but the truth is Narayani hasn't been approached," he clarified.
As Gaurav tells us, enigmatic attitude helps an actor a great deal, but having an air of mystery about you keeps fans interested for a longer time. Since he understands the key to being mysterious is concealing personal information, staying away from a reality show like 'Bigg Boss' has been a conscious decision to keep a rein on his private life.
"I feel it is the mystery about actors that work in their favour. It obviously feels great when people who watch you on TV and wonder if you are as passionate in real life, if as daily soaps show you are also short tempered and romantic in reality. The impact that our shows leave on the viewers and the awed admiration and respect that emerge from it helps us earn a huge fan following. I don't use the word stardom because I think it is very over-the top term, that's why I prefer fan following. I like to preserve that mystery about me. I know it is an old school thought, but I like it that way," he said.
Many feel Salman Khan uses 'Bigg Boss' to plug his friends, even help them stay in the show for a longer time. "I'm not qualified to say anything on this. I haven't watched 'Bigg Boss' ever, just watched the flashes. But from what I hear Salman is great, does everything to support and encourage people. He might have encouraged someone through his show too, but this can't be a generalized statement," he replied.
When asked if the media ban on Salman Khan for acting pricey is justified, Guarav said, "Journalists and photographers have always been very cordial towards me. But at times, events aren't planned the way they should be. The manner in which photographers clamor to click celebrities can get annoying. The problem with us, I mean Indians, is that we like people who are subdued and courteous. So the paparazzi culture does irritate us because we all need that courtesy. Ban on a celebrity doesn't help anyone. But it is also true that Salman Khan doesn't need photos to promote his film. His films will still earn the buzz it usually gets. Such bans have never helped anyone," he said.
