New Delhi: The self-appointed 'King of Good Times' Vijay Mallya is officially bankrupt. His glitzy airlines Kingfisher has been grounded since early 2012, his employees have not been paid their salaries and other statutory dues.
He has even not deposited their Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) with the Income Tax Department and owes over Rs 6000 crore to various banks. He has been declared as a wilful defaulter by these banks.
However, nothing seems to deter him as he is planning to celebrate his 60th birthday in style at a villa in Goa on Friday.
According to media reports from Goa, Mallya may be being hounded by banks to return their money, but that won't stop the United Breweries chairman from having a great time when he celebrates his 60th birthday on December 18.
Mallya's luxury villa in Goa will be converted into the party venue and he's reportedly going to be flying in Enrique Inglesias to entertain his guests as well as possibly sing him birthday song, says a report.
According to the reports, Mallya has invited the who's who of India's Corporate world, especially financial services executive who have not loaned him much. Mallya in April had asked guests to block their dates. A potential guest says the party may sound egregious in these times, but it may be low-key compared to those glorious ones.
Singer Sonu Nigam is also performing at Mallya's three-day long birthday party.
According to a report in Times of India about 600 people are expected to attend and will be housed in either Mallya's palatial home or a nearby hotel.
Vijay Mallya is an independent Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Karnataka and his second term is expiring in June 2016.
