Woman found dead after allegedly falling from terrace in Kanpur

A 20-year-old woman was found dead after allegedly falling from a terrace in Govind Nagar area here in Kanpur, police said on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Nidhi Shukla.

Her husband Vishwas Shukla told police that he had a fight with his wife on Sunday and had beaten her, following which she committed suicide by jumping from the terrace, they said. Nidhi was rushed to the hospital by Vishwas, where she was declared brought dead, police added.

In another incident, 31-year-old Jagmati was found hanging from ceiling of her room in Nawabganj area here.

Premchand, husband of Jagmati also stated that his wife took the extreme step after they had an argument and he slapped her, police said. However, parents of the deceased in both the cases have alleged that the husbands are making false claims and accused them of harassing their daughters for dowry, they said.

No arrests have been made so far in the case, police said adding, the accused men are being questioned and further probe is on in the matter.
