A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Friday on charges of posing as a doctor in the general hospital here and collecting money from people by promising jobs at the hospital.
C Abinaya, a college drop out of Ramakrishna Nagar in Karur had allegedly met Shakeela (40) wife of K Samsudeen of Lalapettai in the same district recently and introduced herself as a doctor at the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (AGMGH) here and asked her to meet her at hospital.
When Shakeela came to meet Abinaya at AGMGH, she saw her with the white coat and a stethoscope, busily moving around the hospital, which made Shakeela trust her.
Shakeela was very much fascinated by Abinaya’s hospitality in the GH and at one point, Abinaya told Shakeela that there were about 40 vacancies in the GH, especially at the maternity ward. She had told Shakeela that she had good contacts in the hospital and it would be easy for her to get a job.
Believing her words, Shakeela asked how much money was needed. Abinaya replied that it would be just `60,000.
Upon assurance, Shakeela arranged Rs 60,000 and asked her friend R Dhanalakshmi (40), and Shakeela’s relative K Akbar Aseef (33) to pay the same amount. All three gave `60,000 each to Abinaya last week. After receiving the amount, Abinaya’s acted indifferently.
Based on a tip off, police arrested Abinaya. They registered a case under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating money or property). Abhinaya was remanded.
