CHENNAI: Music lovers can look forward to rock 'n' roll with some 'powerpuff punch' at the second edition of Divas of Rock, to be held this evening. Hosted at Vivanta by Taj Connemara, the concert will showcase three glam rock diva acts that are sure to blow you away. Popular rock act, No Idea, which last performed two years ago will be making a comeback with this concert. Says vocalist Nanditha Sashidharan, "I got a call about this show a few months ago and thought it was a great opportunity to get the band back together." Also, she makes it a point to add that 'women in rock' are often considered too rebellious or just judged by their appearance. She illustrates, "We were doing a show in Delhi once, and there were some really hardcore metal fans in the audience who started to boo me, just because I was a girl." When she did start singing eventually, the boys were in for a pleasant shock. "As soon as I started singing, everything changed," she shares. Also performing at the concert will be popular vocalist Shakthisree Gopalan with her band Off The Record. "I think it's just a matter of numbers, " Shakthi says candidly, when asked about the ratio of men to women in the city's rock arena. "I mean there are just more guys than girls. What can we do?" she laughs. On a serious note however, she adds, "I do have friends who love to sing and have permission issues or curfews as early as 6 pm (which would make evening practice sessions out of the question), so I think that platforms like this one really gives girls, and their parents that extra boost to go ahead."
