London: Yahoo Inc is seeking to restart merger talks with Time Warner Inc unit AOL as a means of defending itself against the 45 bln usd hostile bid approach from Microsoft Corp The Times newspaper reported, without citing sources.
It is understood that Yahoo and its team of advisers have spent the past week evaluating possible tie-ups with media and technology companies that would save it from being swallowed by Microsoft.
The Times said one option being explored is to restart merger talks with AOL. Tie-ups with groups such as Google Inc or Walt Disney Co are also being considered.
Yahoo and AOL previously failed to join forces because of differences over price.
Yahoo's board is expected to announce that it has rejected Microsoft's cash-and-shares proposal on Monday.
