The youth today is becoming more self-centered and greedy because of the neo-liberalisation taking place in the country which has resulted in the “commodification” of society, said Dr Mohanan Bhaskaran Pillai, director of Centre for South Asia Studies, Pondicherry University, here on Thursday.
Dr Pillai was speaking at a function organised to present the “Above and Beyond Awards” for academic toppers of the Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC).
He said that the youngsters should not fall prey to the propaganda that everything is a saleable product. They should instead contribute to the country’s development. He added that Maoist insurgency had affected nearly 162 districts of the north eastern states which are ignored when the country aims for further growth.
