According to reports, Kolkata Police’s lack of assurances for security is one of the reasons for the match being pushed back. The Mohun Bagan SG-East Bengal game was to be held on October 28 but with the Netherlands vs Bangladesh ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match also being played in the city, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata Police would be finding it difficult to arrange for security cover. The Pakistan men’s cricket team is also scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on the same day. The Durga Puja idol immersion duties may also be a contributing factor.

Here are the ISL matches that have been rescheduled:

Matchweek 4: East Bengal FC vs FC Goa, originally scheduled to be played on October 21 in Kolkata, has been shifted to Bhubaneswar, and will now be played at the Kalinga Stadium on the same date, kickoff time – 5.30 PM.

Matchweek 5: Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal FC, scheduled to be played on October 28, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, has been deferred to a later date. Details of the revised fixture shall be communicated by the league at a later date

Matchweek 5: Mumbai City FC vs Hyderabad FC originally scheduled to kick-off at 5:30 p.m. on October 28 at the Mumbai Football Arena, will now kick-off at 8 p.m.

All other fixtures remain unchanged.

In fact, this is not the first time that a match has been pushed back after the clash between FC Goa and Hyderabad FC, which was to be held on September 22, was rescheduled.

Even though no reason was given at the time, it was speculated that the match was cancelled after Sandesh Jhingan from FC Goa and Chinglensana Singh of Hyderabad FC were called up for the national team for the Asian Games.

At the continental meet, the Sunil Chhetri-led U-23 Indian men’s football team, managed to navigate their way through their group, despite a loss to hosts China in their opening game. In the knockouts, India lost to Saudi Arabia.
