Astrologer Shares What Not To Do On Raksha Bandhan
On the day of Raksha Bandhan, the brother and sister should not wear black clothes. It symbolises Saturn and is considered inauspicious.

The festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the day of Sawan Purnima. This year it will be observed on August 19. The auspicious time to tie rakhi is from 01:30 PM to 09:08 PM. On this day, sisters tie rakhi on their brother’s wrist. The individuals who do not have a sister can go to the temple to celebrate this festival.

This year Shobhana Yoga is being formed on the day of Raksha Bandhan. According to astrology, Shobhana Yoga is an auspicious yoga that is considered to be a good time for starting auspicious activities. The impact of Shobhana Yoga is considered to be positive. With numerous rituals in place during this festival, Dr Mrityunjay Tiwari, Head of the Astrology Department of Shri Kallaji Vedic University, lists the activities which you can avoid during the Raksha Bandhan.

On the day of Raksha Bandhan, the brother and sister should not wear black clothes. It symbolises Saturn and is considered inauspicious. Due to this, black colour clothes are avoided in almost all auspicious functions.

You should avoid using steel plates to keep all the items for Raksha Bandhan rituals. Steel is related to Saturn. You can use a brass or copper plate instead of steel or aluminium.

Try not to buy rakhi which is made of plastic. You can buy rakhi made of cotton, silk etc. If there is no rakhi, then Raksha Sutra can also be tied.

While tying a rakhi to your brother on Raksha Bandhan, you should also keep the direction in mind. The brothers should face towards the east or north while the sisters tie rakhi on their wrists. They should avoid facing the south direction as it is considered a direction for Yamraj, the god of death.

Never tie a rakhi during the Bhadra and Rahukal period. When you apply tilak to your brother during rakhi, it is better to use roli, sandalwood, turmeric, saffron etc. Avoid using gulaal, sindoor etc. while tying the rakhi.

While tying the rakhi, you should recite mantras such as Yen Baddho Bali Raja, Danavendra Mahabal and Rakshe Machal Machal. However, those sisters who do not remember this, tie the rakhi to their brother while wishing him well.
