In the Hindu calendar, Navratri is celebrated four times a year. Among them, Chaitra and Sharada Navratri are considered to be the main Navratris and are celebrated with pomp and show across the country. This year, Chaitra Navratri will start on April 9 and will continue for nine days. Chaitra Navratri starts from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This year, Navratri will conclude with the onset of Ram Navami. According to Hindu traditions, it is believed that during the nine days of Chaitra Navratri, Maa Durga comes to Earth to bless her devotees. As per the Hindu calendar, the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will start on April 8 at 11:50 PM. Along with this, it will end the next day, April 9, at 08:30 PM which will commence Chaitra Navratri.
There is a common belief among the devotees that during these nine days of Navratri, people should wear traditional clothes, as it is considered highly auspicious. Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, the famous astrologer of the Mudgal Astrology Centre located at Pagal Baba Ashram in Deoghar, revealed that Chaitra Navratri is going to start on April 9. During these nine days, different forms of Goddess Durga will be worshipped throughout the country. During these nine days, Goddess Durga should be worshipped wearing only traditional clothes. He also revealed that every day of the Navratri is dedicated to a goddess, so people should match the colour of their clothes with the goddesses.
So, let’s take a look at what colour the devotees should wear on each day of the Chaitra Navratri:
1. On the first day of Chaitra Navratri, Goddess Shailputri is worshipped. As a result, devotees are advised to wear pink clothes.
2. Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day; as a result, devotees should wear white clothes on that day.
3. The third day of Chaitra Navratri belongs to Goddess Chanraghanta, and devotees are advised to wear red clothes to impress her.
4. The fourth day is the day of Goddess Kushmanda. Devotees should wear blue or yellow clothes.
5. On the fifth day, Goddess Skandmata is worshipped, and people should go for grey clothes.
6. The Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day. People should wear red or yellow clothes.
7. The seventh day is the day of Goddess Mahakal Ratri, and devotees should wear clothes of every colour.
8. Goddess Mahagauri is worshipped on the eighth day, and worshippers should wear purple-coloured clothes on that day.
9. On the ninth day, Goddess Siddhidatri is worshipped. Devotees should wear green coloured clothes.
