According to Dr Rekha Singh, who is an MD.DVL at Oliva Skin and Hair Clinic in Hyderabad, natural sunshine is beneficial to Psoriasis since it contains UVA and UVB rays. She has revealed that UVB rays are important in lowering the increased pace of skin cell growth and shedding, which may contribute to an improvement in Psoriasis symptoms. She also added that when skin is exposed to the sun, the body produces vitamin D, which is considered good for the overall skin and bone health. It is also important to note that excess exposure to sun can lead to sunburn, especially to people who have lighter skin tone. They are also susceptible to developing cancer such as Melanoma.
Sun Exposure Guidelines
Doctors can assess a person’s medical state and recommend a safe degree of sun exposure. Some of the most common guidelines for safe sun exposure for Psoriasis treatment include wearing sunscreen consistently when outdoors.
Another advice is that people with Psoriasis should avoid the sun’s peak intensity between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
Thirdly, healthcare specialists have recommended a more controlled kind of UV exposure, such as narrow-band UVB therapy.
Dr Rekha Singh has also specified that the natural sunlight lacks the controlled environment that is rather offered during the medical processes like phototherapy.
Those with mild symptoms of Psoriasis should start with 30 minutes of sun exposure around noon. Those with more severe symptoms should start with lower exposure intervals and work their way up. The health professional added that certain people can have skin burning within just 5-10 minutes of sun exposure.
