Australia will be seeking to redeem themselves against Sri Lanka in their third World Cup match in India. The five-time World Champions are currently on a terrible run, failing to win both of their previous games at the marquee event. Sri Lanka too have failed to secure a win so far, and have their work cut out after captain Dasun Shanaka was ruled out for the tournament through injury.
Australia lost their opener to the hosts India as they were halted to a 199-run scoreline in the first innings of the match. In the second innings, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stitched a brilliant partnership to take India across the finish line. In their second game against South Africa, Quinton de Kock smashed his second century of the tournament helping his side put together a 311-run total. After the innings break, Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets to break Australia’s backs as they lost the game by 134 runs.

Australia will face Sri Lanka at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow on October 16. Sri Lanka are also on a poor run too as the Asian side has also conceded two losses in the two games they have played at the World Cup. The opening defeat was against South Africa by 102 runs and the second loss was against Pakistan by six wickets. They shall now be looking to bounce back against the most decorated team in the tournament’s history.
