Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan's wife Sunanda has passed away after battling cancer for two years. She was 66. Sunanda, who breathed her last yesterday in a Mumbai hospital, was cremated here today after her body was flown to their native house this noon.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen chandy, his cabinet colleagues Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and K Babu, film director, Shaji N Karun, veteran actor Madhu, director Shyama Prasad were among those who paid their last respects.
Sunanda had been battling cancer for the past two years and was undergoing treatment here.
She was admitted to the Tata Memorial hospital in Mumbai, where the couple had gone to visit their only daughter, Aswathi and her husband, C Dorjee, both IPS officers posted in the Maharashtra capital.
