The much-awaited trailer for the live-action series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has been released, quickly capturing viewers’ attention. Unveiled at the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Friday, August 9, the trailer features Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness, a character she previously portrayed in WandaVision.
The storyline of Marvel’s Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is set after the events of WandaVision, where Agatha Harkness was last seen trapped under a spell. Her attempt to escape is successful when a mysterious figure, played by Joe Locke, releases her in exchange for a promise to join him on the legendary Witches’ Road. Once freed from the enchantment, Agatha finds herself helpless and she must now work to reclaim them.
The Agatha All Along series chronicles Agatha Harkness’ journey as she forms an unlikely alliance while trying to restore her authority, which she lost in her final confrontation with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).
In the trailer, Agatha is seen roaming through the woods. Soon, there is a flashback to WandaVision’s final battle between Scarlet Witch and Agatha.
Kathryn Hahn, in conversation with Deadline, shared insights about the series. She said, “It was very important to her (Jac Schaeffer) and Mary Livanos, our producer, that there be minimal CGI, so there’s very little that is not practical magic or just our magic, so that was a very exciting thing to set up that we were able to prove again and again we could do it. So, it’s minimal CGI, but that was very thrilling. The sets are incredible. It just felt delicious. It was a very immersive experience,"
The new series features a star-studded lineup that includes Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn and Debra Jo Rupp. The principal writer and executive producer for Agatha All Along is Jac Schaeffer, who also wrote WandaVision. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, and Mary Livanos are also executive producers. This spin-off series has been directed by Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg, and Gandja Montiero.
Even before the spin-off series was under development, the hit song Agatha All Along, written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, gained popularity. It was used in the seventh episode of WandaVision. The song received an Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics. Agatha All Along will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on September 18, 2024.
