The film may have not been released in India but has been earning praises in various international film festivals in the past month.

Alankrita Srivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha may have got banned by CBFC, but the film has become eligible for the prestigious Golden Globes Awards. In February, CBFC had refused to certify the film, terming it as ‘lady oriented’.

The film, that features Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ahana Kumra and others, was recently screened at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. The film opened the festival and had the film’s director and actress Ahana Kumra in attendance. Just before the film’s screening began, director of IFFLA, Christina Marouda announced “We are honored that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen our opening night film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, to be an official Golden Globes qualifying screening. The director of the film will now have the opportunity to properly plan a Golden Globes campaign should she choose to submit the film for nomination,” reports Mumbai Mirror.

The elated director said she was honoured that the her film had been chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press. “This was really unexpected to me. This is a big leap for me and my team," said Alankrita.

The film may have not been released in India but has been earning praises in various international film festivals in the past month. The film was screened last year at Mumbai Film Festival.

Terming it ‘lady oriented’ and a film that has ‘sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society,” the Censor Board refused to certify the Prakash Jha production recently. An uproar ensued on social media, that had celebrities like Farhan Akhtar, Dia Mirza, Anurag Kashyap batting for the film.

Soon after the controversy broke out, Alankrita, while speaking to News18 had stated that she would take the matter to the court and ensure that it would get a smooth release in India. “We are going to approach FCAT soon and I know that it's going to be a long battle but I am hundred percent sure that the film will get a commercial release. “
