Multi-talented Diljit Dosanjh is no stranger to breaking the glass ceiling when it comes to promoting Indian music on the world stage. The Jatt & Juliet 2 star is currently on his Dil-Luminati world tour. On Friday, May 24, he played a sold-out show at the famous American Airlines Center or AACenter. This multipurpose indoor arena in Texas, USA has the capacity of about 20,000 people.
After his show, Dosanjh was honoured by the venue for his successful concert. He was given the jerseys of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association, along with a framed poster of his show. The AACenter representative who gave him the tokens of appreciation, also asked Dosanjh to sign one of the framed posters that they later display at the venue. The AACenter representative explained that they always honour sold-out concerts by getting a signed frame by the artists.
Dosanjh’s team shared a video of this wholesome exchange between Dosanjh and the AACenter representative on Instagram. In the comments, many Instagram users shared their happiness at seeing Dosanjh’s organic success. An Instagram user wrote, “Omg love it!!! You’re sold out everywhere! Wouldn’t expect anything less! Love those jerseys!!”
Back in April, the 40-year-old artist made history by selling out Vancouver’s BC Place which has the capacity of over 54,000 people. With this maiden show of the Dil-Luminati tour, he broke the record for the largest Punjabi concert outside of India.
As per Hype of Life, after the record-breaking concert, Dosanjh said, “Creating history isn’t just about breaking records; it’s about shattering stereotypes and showcasing the rich tapestry of Punjabi culture to the world. As I stand on this stage, I carry the pride of my heritage with me, knowing that every beat, every lyric shows the resilience and vibrancy of Punjabi identity. This moment isn’t just for me; it’s for every Indian who dares to dream and strives to make their mark on the world.”
This is not the only record that the singer-actor has broken. In April last year, he became the first Indian Punjabi artist to perform at the Coachella Music Festival. He performed a 45-minute Punjabi set with a live band. As he entered the stage amidst huge applause, Dosanjh said, “Now, it has been written in history. Punjabi aa gaye hun Coachella (Punjabis have reached Coachella).”
