Inside Out 2 Surpasses Incredibles 2 To Become Pixar's Highest-Grossing Film

Disney and Pixar’s highly-awaited sequel, Inside Out 2, continues to cause a stir at the box office, rewriting record books for animated films in Hollywood. In yet another stunning feat, it has become the highest-grossing film in the history of Pixar by earning $1.25 billion globally. With this, Inside Out 2 has also broken the record created by Incredibles 2, the animation studio’s previous release that had collected $1.24 billion. With such a tremendous performance, the sequel has clearly exceeded the overall gross of the original Inside Out film, which earned $859 million in 2015.

According to Variety, Inside Out 2 is now the fourth-highest-grossing animated film, only trailing behind Frozen with $1.29 billion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie with $1.36 billion, and Frozen II with $1.45 billion. Notably, the Frozen films were made under the banner of Walt Disney Animation Studios, which shared the parent company with Pixar.

On Tuesday, the film finished with $1.251 billion in global ticket sales, including $543.5 million domestically and another $708 million internationally. With this, Inside Out 2 is now among the select 11 animated films that have crossed the $1 billion mark. Earlier this month, it conquered the coveted mark in less than three weeks of release.

What Is Inside Out 2 About?

Picking up after the events of the original Inside Out, the sequel focuses on a teenage Riley who has now entered the world of adolescence as she prepares for high school. Among new friends and a different environment, Riley will come across some new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Nostalgia.

In addition, the original five, i.e., Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust also join the chaos. Directed by Kelsey Mann, the film’s official synopsis reads, “Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2" returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone."
