Director Rian Johnson is set to return with the third part of his murder-mystery franchise, Knives Out featuring Daniel Craig.

Daniel Craig is all set to return as the famous detective, Benoit Blanc, for Rian Johnson’s third installment of the Knives Out franchise. The film’s official title, along with its release timeline has been unveiled as has the star-studded casting for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. While details about the film’s plot have been kept under wraps, it won’t be completely wrong to expect a couple of surprising cameos in the film. In Knives Out Glass Onion, viewers were treated to sneak peeks of actress Angela Lansbury, basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, composer Stephen Sondheim, and actress Natasha Lyonne, among others, who portrayed Blanc’s friends.

This time too, some known faces might be seen, likely Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is known for starring or discreetly cameoing in all of Johnson’s films since 2005’s Brick. In a recent conversation with CinemaBlend, the actor spoke about the possibility of continuing the trend in Knives Out 3. Notably, he even appeared in both the previous Knives Out films.

“I don’t know; I don’t know. But he makes good movies. Rian Johnson is one of the best alive, I think,” Gordon-Levitt said.

Speaking of Wake Up Deadman, it features a large cast, including Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Cailee Spaeny, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Glen Close and others. Tom Hardy’s name is also being thrown around as a potential casting option.

More On Knives Out 3

According to director Johnson, Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc will return with his “most dangerous” in the third part. Speaking on it, producer Ram Bergman told ComicBook, “The first one, [Johnson] had the idea for years in his head, but he only put pen to paper, like late January, and by the end of October, we were filming it, which is a super fast time.”

While announcing the first details, Johnson revealed that the film will soon go into production. “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies,” he continued.

The murder mystery film will be released globally on Netflix in 2025.
