Actor Kamal Haasan has opted out as the host of Bigg Boss Ultimate, the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil’s OTT version. The actor announced his decision on Twitter on Sunday. Haasan said that the schedule was clashing with the shooting commitments of his upcoming film Vikram. He said that he tried to manage both, but it has become “practically impossible” to do them simultaneously.
In a statement, actor Kamal Haasan said that the spread of Covid-19 in the state and the ensuing lockdown rules have made a lot of changes in everyone’s day-to-day plans. ‘Vikram’ filming and other productions are no exception.

Kamal Haasan has been hosting Bigg Boss Tamil since its first season. He was also hosting the ongoing season of Bigg Boss Tamil Ultimate, which is Bigg Boss Tamil’s OTT version. Announcing the reason to quit the show mid-way, Kamal Haasan said that “production and post-production” of his film Vikram was clashing with the schedule of Bigg Boss Ultimate’s shoot.
In his statement, Kamal Haasan said it was an “honour” for him to launch the OTT version of Bigg Boss Tamil. He said that he became “attached” to the reality show that premiered on January 30 on Disney+Hotstar. Bigg Boss Ultimate allows viewers to watch contestants’ activities 24×7.
He stated, “Filming of Vikram movie has been postponed several times due to Lockdowns. As a result, I had to make changes to the dates I had set aside for the Bigg Boss Ultimate show and the shooting dates for ‘Vikram’. As the final phase of filming approaches, other important actors and technicians working with me had to reschedule dates, making it impossible for both Bigg Boss Ultimate and ‘Vikram’ to perform simultaneously.”
“It is not fair to delay the most actors, artists and technicians of Indian Cinema for my own reasons. The tasks they have agreed to are waiting for them. So, I’ve decided to opt out of the Bigg Boss Ultimate show airing on Disney Plus Hotstar after the February 20 episode, which comes with a heavy heart. It saddens me that I have been meeting and talking to the fans since the day the Bigg Boss show debuted in Tamil. The love and support that Disney Plus Hotstar and Vijay TV management give me in this difficult moment makes me resilient. I apologize them for the inconvenience caused by my deviation. This is a very temporary break. See you all very soon again in Bigg Boss Season 6,” Kamal said.
Kamal has promised his fans to meet again in Season 6 of Bigg Boss Tamil.
Kamal Haasan will next be seen in Tamil action thriller Vikram directed by Lokesh Kanagraj. He will be sharing screen space with actors Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi in this movie. The soundtrack and film score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in summer 2022.
