Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover's Fight Leave Fans Confused; Will the Two Patch Up?

When two of the most popular comedians of the country fight, the nation gets curious. And in Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover’s case, a tad confused. The tweet exchange between the two have left many curious about what exactly transpired between the two on their flight back to Mumbai from Australia a few days back where the two allegedly got into a fight.

Reports suggested a drunk Kapil Sharma started hurling abuses at a team member when Sunil Grover stepped up to calm Sharma down. Things became ugly as Sharma then got involved in a war of words with Grover. A Mid-day report even suggests that Sharma hit Grover in a fit of rage.

As the news broke out, Kapil was the first to issue a statement. On his Facebook page, Sharma wrote that the fight with Grover was a personal matter and that media should not intervene. Few hours later, he even issued an apology to the comedian who rose to fame for his Gutthi act in Comedy Nights With Kapil.

While Grover’s tone seemed tough, Sharma throughout seemed to downplay the matter. From his first statement, where he called Grover his brother and part of his family, to his apology tweets to Grover later- the TV host has been repeatedly trying to sort the matter out.

This isn’t the first time that Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover have had a tiff. Back in 2013, when Grover’s Gutthi gained popularity, the comedian had demanded a pay hike from the channel which Sharma and Colors Channel had denied him. When Grover left the show, Kapil initially kept mum about the matter but later in an interview said, “All I can say is, he (Sunil) should have never left our show, we were all part of the success of our show.” Calling Grover his senior, Sharma had then said he was never insecure of Grover’s rising popularity and his exit was due to provocation from other people. “I go out of my way to ensure every member of my team has a chance to take the stage, so I can relax. Sunil must have been provoked into leaving by people around him."

Grover did start his own show on Star Plus but the show did not work well. TRPs of Comedy Nights With Kapil fell during this period. It was only when the two amicably sorted their issues and Gutthi made a comeback, that the show came back on track.

The team eventually exited Colors due to differences with the channel over promotions of Comedy Nights Bachao. During that phase, the team appeared to be united and collectively spoke about how injustice had been meted out to them by Colors.

There were reports about how Kapil Sharma had refused to promote Sunil Grover’s film Coffee With D on The Kapil Sharma Show. Grover had later clarified that Kapil had no role to play. “Yes, the promotion of Coffee With D on The Kapil Sharma Show is not happening. However, Kapil did not refuse it. Anything of that sort did not happen. Kapil did not say a no."

Despite differences in the past, both comedians have perhaps realized that the success of their show is possible only when they work as a team. Which is why Grover’s walk out from the show may effect the TRPs in the long run. What remains to be seen is whether the two finally patch up and bury their differences.
