Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is currently busy promoting her latest film Veere Di Wedding, has recently found herself tangled in an unwitting controversy after she took a rather confused stance on feminism. At a promotional event of Veere Di Wedding, the actress said, "I believe in equality. I wouldn't say I am a feminist, I would say I am a woman and above all, I am a human being. I am also as proud to be known as Saif Ali Khan's wife, as I am to be Kareena Kapoor. So that is just the way I am."
The actress' statement didn't go down well with social media users, who hit out at her "double standards".
Addressing the controversy, Kareena told IANS in an interview: "...On social media platforms many people misuse the word feminism. It is about equality and does not mean one is superior to another. It is about equal rights for everyone. Today a man is working, a woman is working on the same platform with the same level of dedication, skill set -- whether it is an entrepreneur, a journalist, a filmmaker, an actor, we all are doing everything with equality."
The actress further said the team of her upcoming movie has often been asked if they are trying to make a point on feminism and women empowerment through the movie, "but the fact is we made a film on the story of four girls in a very commercial space. It is an entertaining film!"
Veere Di Wedding is a female buddy comedy film, directed by Shashanka Ghosh. The film is co-produced by Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi. Apart from Kareena Kapoor, the film features Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania in key roles.
