It has been nearly two decades since Lady Gaga made her way into the world of music, further stepping into acting. While the singer-actor enjoys a massive fan following across the globe, Gaga has had her own share of controversies and trolling over the years. Her personal life and sexuality continue to remain a subject of intense speculation as rumours swirl about the singer being a “man.” Breaking her silence on the long-standing rumours, Lady Gaga has finally revealed why she chose to not clear the air.
In the second episode of What’s Next? The Future With Bill Gates, the pop icon also recalled being bombarded with such questions during media appearances and music tours. Mentioning that she “didn’t feel like a victim,” Gaga shared that she did not feel the need to clear the rumours.
“When I was in my early 20s, there was a rumor that I was a man. I went all over the world. I traveled for tours and for promoting my records, and almost every interview I sat in—there was this imagery on the internet that had been doctored—they were like, There’s rumors that you’re a man. What do you have to say about that?” she told Gates.
“People assume […] that my performance is what’s not real. But to me, that’s the most real thing that you’ll see about me.” Lady Gaga talks about how she's handled misinformation in her career in What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates. Now playing. pic.twitter.com/legQm24FEA

Explaining why she never answered the questions, the Joker: Folie a Deux star added, “I didn’t feel like a victim with that lie, and I thought, What about a kid who is being accused of that? Who would think that a public figure like me would feel shame?” Gaga stated how she has been in situations where fixing a rumour never worked in the best interest of other people. “I tried to be thought-provoking and disruptive in another way. I tried to use the misinformation to create another disruptive point,” she continued.
The singer went on to summarise her relationship with the swirling misinformation and said that she had gotten used to it and finds it “funny.”
This is supposedly the first time in a decade that the pop star has openly shared her views on the rumours. Back in 2011, she told CNN, “Why the hell am I going to waste my time and give a press release about whether or not I have a penis? My fans don’t care, and neither do I.”
