Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan stole the spotlight at the IIFA Awards announcement in Mumbai on Tuesday, rekindling their long-standing camaraderie with lighthearted moments on stage. They are gearing up to host IIFA 2024 at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and their camaraderie was on full display during the press conference. The duo, known for their decades-long friendship and countless collaborations, shared more than just the limelight.
On Wednesday, Karan took to Instagram to share two heartwarming photos with Shah Rukh, along with a sweet caption that reflected the brother-like bond they’ve shared over the years. “Big Brother, Guide, inspiration and family forever… not to forget a bonafide force of nature! Love you bhai! ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar’s friendship has been one of Bollywood’s most iconic partnerships, both on and off the screen. Their bond first flourished in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), where Karan was an assistant director, but it was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) that cemented their relationship, with Shah Rukh playing the lead in Karan’s directorial debut. Over the years, they worked together on many blockbusters like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), My Name is Khan (2010), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), each film a bigger hit than the previous one.
During the press interaction, Shah Rukh shared that Karan wouldn’t be physically available for the rehearsals and planned to do them over Zoom. “Karan told me he won’t be rehearsing for hosting, he’ll do it on Zoom. He said, ‘Bhai main Zoom pe kar lunga… main itna jaldi karta hu. Main toh itna hosting karta hu na.’ Chat show bhi host karta hai, film show bhi host karta hai… picture bhi toh bana mere bhai tu,’” SRK quipped, leaving the audience and Karan in splits. He further teased, “Kitna host karega tu.”
On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will soon be seen in King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The film will feature his daughter Suhana Khan, marking the first on-screen collaboration between the father-daughter duo.
