Mrunal Thakur Defends Ranbir Kapoor for Starring in Animal: 'If You Don't Like It Maybe...'

Mrunal Thakur’s take on Animal has gone viral. The actress was attending IIFA 2024 in Abu Dhabi. She interacted with the media on the green carpet when she was asked to comment about Ranbir’s Animal. The actress, who shares a good bond with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, urged everyone to accept the ‘diversity’ that an actor brings to the screen.

Citing the example of Barfi, Mrunal said, “We need to understand that it is the character we are resonating and connecting with. Let’s not forget that Ranbir is also the actor who played Barfi. Why can’t we appreciate that an actor can do roles like Animal and Barfi. Just celebrate films, if you like it, great, if you don’t like it, maybe next time.”

Animal was one of the biggest hits of 2023. The film, released in December last year, showed Ranbir in a never-before-seen avatar. While the film was controversial for its appraoch towards women, it drew in a large audience. As a result, Animal earned Rs 556.36 Cr in India. The film collected Rs 917.82 Cr worldwide. Animal was also one of the 29 films that was in the running to be India’s official submission for Oscars 2025. It lost the opportunity to Laapataa Ladies.

The film also picked up a few awards in the awards season. At IIFA 2024 alone, it won three big awards. Animal took home the award for Best Film, Best Supporting Actor (Male), which was awarded to Anil Kapoor and Best Performance in a Negative Role, that was presented to Bobby Deol.
