Actor Nana Patekar opened up about her fallout with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor and the filmmaker worked together in Khamoshi: The Musical, which also starred Manisha Koirala and Salman Khan. The film released in 1996. In a recent interview, Nana was asked about his fallout with Bhansali. At first, he hesitated to comment about it. But he confessed he and Bhansali had ‘many’ arguments during the making of the film.
“It wasn’t just one argument, there were many. But Sanjay is a good director. In the scene, my wife has a heart attack. I’m playing cards with my back to her. She’s behind me. We are both deaf, of course. How would I know what’s happening behind my back? Sanjay wanted me to turn. He said that there is an unspoken bond that a couple shares, but this wasn’t a strong enough reason for me to understand the scene. I said I needed a solid reason,” Nana Patekar told The Lallantop.
“Perhaps I stepped out of line. But I feel relationships shouldn’t be limited to work. We should remain friends even after our work together is over. That’s how I would prefer it to be. Films come and go, but our memories stay with us forever,” the actor added.
The film also featured Manisha Koirala, who Nana was allegedly dating at the time. While Nana did not delve into the relationship or break up in the interview, he confessed he is not in touch with Manisha. He made the confession when he was talking about her performance in Heeramandi.
Nana called Manisha a ‘great actress’ and said, “Bohot accha kaam kiya. (She’s done a very good job in the show).” When asked if he reached out to her to congratulate her on the show, Nana paused for a few seconds before saying, “Phone number woh same nahi hai shayad ab (Her phone number isn’t the same anymore I think).”
